Why I would give blends more credit
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 is the bottle I would pour for someone who says they only drink single malt. Unlike grain-based blends, this is a blended malt, so the character comes from malt whiskies aged at least 15 years. The glass brings coffee, smoke, bitter chocolate, crisp cereal, honey, dates, walnut, oak, and spice.
It has more whisky-drinker credibility than the label familiarity might suggest. Black Label is useful because it is reliable; Green Label is useful because it has shape and depth. The smoke is present without being punishing, and the malt weight makes it feel much more intentional than a generic house blend.
I would use it for Father's Day, Burns Night, retirement, or a promotion gift where the recipient knows enough about Scotch to appreciate a blended malt. It is a reminder that recognisable brands can still make serious bottles.
A 15 year blended malt that quietly makes the case for taking blends seriously.
