ABV
Alcohol by volume. A higher ABV often brings more intensity, but balance matters more than strength alone.

Age statement
The number of years the youngest whisky in the bottle spent maturing in cask. NAS means no age statement is declared.
Bourbon
An American whiskey style made from at least 51% corn and matured in new charred oak containers.
Peat
Partially decayed vegetation used to dry malted barley. It can create smoky, earthy, medicinal, coastal, or bonfire-like flavours.
Single malt
Whisky made at one distillery from malted barley using pot stills. Scotch single malt must also meet Scotch whisky rules.
Single pot still
An Irish whiskey style made from malted and unmalted barley at one distillery in pot stills.
Finish
The flavours and texture that remain after swallowing. A long finish lingers; a short finish fades quickly.
