Why I would keep it on the bar
Buffalo Trace is the bottle I think of as the house bourbon for people who care about flavour but do not want every pour to feel precious. It gives you the classic Kentucky shape: caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, light oak, a little spice, and enough dark fruit to make it feel rounded.
What makes it useful is versatility. Neat, it is friendly and balanced. In an Old Fashioned, it has enough body to stand up to bitters and sugar. For gifting, it feels recognisable without being lazy. The caveat is availability: in some US markets it can be oddly chased or overpriced, so the value argument only holds when the bottle is close to normal retail.
I would pour this for a housewarming, a casual dinner, or anyone building a first serious shelf. It is not the most complex bourbon here, and that is partly the point. It is steady, warm, and easy to understand.
A dependable bourbon that earns its place by being useful in almost every setting.
